Jose A. Casaretto

Jose A. Casaretto received his B.S. degree in biology from Universidad Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. He received his M.S. degree in plant biology from Universidad de Chile, Santiago, Chile in 1996 and his Ph.D. degree in plant biology from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo, USA in 2002. From 2002 to 2004, he served as a Research Associate Scientist in the Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2005, he was hired as a Professor and Researcher at the Universidad de Talca, Chile, were he leads the Molecular Plant Physiology Lab at the Instituto de BiologĂ­a Vegetal y BiotecnologĂ­a. Currently, he serves also as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Guelph, ON, Canada. He is a Member of the American Society of Plant Biologists and the Chilean Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SCBBM). His research is primarily in the area of plant stress biology and biotechnology with emphasis on gene regulation and gene function associated to abiotic stress responses.
