Gerard Jennhwa Chang

Gerard J. Chang was born in Nantou, Taiwan in 1952. He received the B.S. degree in mathematics from the National Central University, Taoyuan, Taiwan in 1974, and the Ph.D. degree in operations research from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, in 1982. He was an Associated Professor in the National Central University from 1983 to 1988 and a Professor in the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu Taiwan from 1988 to 1991. After that, he was a professor in the Department of Mathematics, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. He was the Chairman of the Department of Applied Mathematics, National Chiao Tung University from 1993 to 1995. He was the Associated Dean of Academic Affair, National Chiao Tung University from 1998 to 2000. He is the Director of the National Center for Theoretical Sciences, Taipei office from 2005 on. He is the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics, National Taiwan University since 2007. He serves on the Editorial Board of Discrete Optimization in the Journal of Combinatorial Optimization. Dr. Chang's research fields include discrete optimization, graph algorithm, network reliability, and group testing. He has published a book in reliability and more than 100 refereed papers in the fields mentioned above.
