Stoyan Gutzov, Ph.D., was born in Sofia, Bulgaria on 1964. He was a Ph.D. student at the Department of Physical Chemistry from 1991 to 1995. His research interests are optical materials, sol-gel chemistry, oxynitride ceramics, zirconia, and solid state. In 1996, he served as an Assistant Professor of physical chemistry and in 2005 as an Associate Professor of physical chemistry. He received an OAAD grant from the University of Vienna, Austria, Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography, between 1992 and 1993, a DAAD grant from the University of Cologne, Germany, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, between 1994 and 1995, and a Hertie Stiftung grant from the TU Berlin as a Visiting Scientist, between 2002 and 2003. He served as a Visiting Professor of physical chemistry and solid state chemistry from 2000 to 2001 at the University of Applied Sciences Muenster, Germany, and in 2006 and 2007 as a Visiting Professor of solid state chemistry at the TU Braunschweig, Germany.
