Hicham Fenniri

Hicham Fenniri leads the Supramolecular Nanoscale Assembly Group at the National Research Council, National Institute for Nanotechnology and is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta. Dr. Fenniri was educated at Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, receiving his undergraduate and graduate degrees in biochemistry and organic chemistry. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 1994, under the supervision of Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, he did his postdoctoral research at the Scripps Research Institute in California, USA, under the supervision of Professor Richard A. Lerner. He then moved to Purdue University in 1997, where he founded the Purdue Laboratory for Chemical Nanotechnology. He went to Canada in 2003 to join the National Institute for Nanotechnology and the University of Alberta. Dr. Fenniri has been the recipient of many academic and professional awards, including the US National Science Foundation Career Award (1999–2003), the Cottrell Teacher Scholar Award (2000–2005), the 3M Junior Faculty Award (2000, 2002), the Trask Trust Fund Technology Innovation Award (2000), the Showalter Trust Fund Research Award (2000, 2002), the XEROX UAC Award (2005–2008), and the Purdue School of Science New Curriculum Development Award (1998). Dr. Fenniri is the Author of 42 publications, holds 5 patents, and edited a book in the area of combinatorial chemistry. He gave over 100 invited lectures, including 3 distinguished lectures (Yale, Regensburg University), and over 150 contributed papers at major conferences. Dr. Fenniri held 3 Visiting Professorships at Regensburg University, Germany (2002, 2003), and at the University Colorado Boulder (2004). Dr. Fenniri is also on the editorial board of the International Journal of Nanomedicine and NanoBiotechnology.
