John Sayer is a Senior Lecturer in nephrology, based at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University, and an Honorary Consultant Nephrologist at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust Hospitals. His scientific career commenced in Newcastle where he undertook a Ph.D. degree in physiological sciences. Following this Dr. Sayer was appointed as a Lecturer in nephrology, allowing him to complete his higher clinical training whilst maintaining his research interests in renal genetics and pathophysiology of inherited renal disease. A postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, Mich, USA, allowed his training in molecular genetics and use of animal models in disease to be expanded. Dr. Sayer leads a highly successful renal genetics research group at the Institute of Genetic Medicine, Newcastle University, UK.
