Joseph Redón was born in Valencia in 1950. He completed an M.S. degree in medicine at the Medical School of the University of Valencia (1968_1974) with 12 A+ grades and with an A grade on the Master’s final examination. He earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of Valencia. He serves as a Specialist in Internal Medicine from the Medical Postgraduate Training Program (MIR) done at the Jiménez Diaz Foundation, Madrid, and at the University Hospital La Fe in Valencia. In the field of teaching, he started collaboration with the University of Valencia in 1984 as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Medicine. In 1995, he obtained the position of associate professor at the university in the area of medicine, and in 2004, he became a full professor (Catedrá tico) of internal medicine. In the clinical field, and after a period of training, in 1977, he became an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital La Fe of Valencia. In 1981, he became the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine for Sagunto Hospital. Later, in 2005, he was named the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine the Clinical Hospital of Valencia, a position held to present. From 2001 to 2006, he has held the presidency of the quality commission. His research activities have been carried out in conjunction with the clinical activities in the field of hypertension. This has been realized by a fellowship in hypertension at the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, Northwestern University (Prof. D Batlle) in Chicago (1991–1992); periods of attendance in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventative Medicine, Loyola University (Prof. R. S. Cooper), Maywood, Ill (1993-1994); being an Associate Researcher for the Molecular Medicine Unit in the Biomedical Research Foundation of Valencia (1997–2001); serving as a Researcher for the Research Foundation of the Clinical Hospital, Valencia (2001); and working as the Head Researcher and Researcher for a significant number of research projects financed by competitive public grants.
