Raymond M. Planinsic
Raymond M. Planinsic holds an M.D. degree. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Anesthesiology since 1993 and Associate Professor of anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine since 2003. Dr. Planinsic earned a B.S. degree with honors from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1981, and an M.D. degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in 1986. After medical school, Dr. Planinsic completed his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and Allegheny General Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine (1990). Recognizing his interest in acute care and critical care medicine, he pursued an anesthesiology residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM). Dr. Planinsic was appointed as a faculty member to the UPSOM, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine in 1993. He is board certified in anesthesiology (1994). Dr. Planinsic has been the Director of transplantation anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center since 1999. He serves as a Member of numerous professional societies including but not limited to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (member ASA Committee on Transplant Anesthesia), the International Anesthesia Research Society, the International Liver Transplantation Society, and the Intestinal Transplantation Society. He serves on the Editorial Boards of several journals including Liver Transplantation, Clinical Transplantation, World Journal of Transplantation, ISRN Anesthesiology and is an invited manuscript reviewer for several other peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Planinsic is the author of numerous book chapters, articles, and abstracts, and often speaks at national and international meetings.
