Jens Sondergaard

Jens Søndergaard was born in 1963. He received his M.D. degree from Odense University, Odense, Denmark, in 1990, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark, in 2002. He is specialized in general practice in 1997 and in clinical pharmacology in 2002. Currently, he is a Professor and the Head of the Research Unit for General Practice, Institute for Health Service Research, University of Southern Denmark since 2008. His research activities mainly focus on the organization of the healthcare system, in particular on delay of cancer diagnosis, cancer rehabilitation and palliative care, COPD, and on pharmacoepidemiology. Moreover, he authored or coauthored more than 40 publications in peer reviewed indexed journals, more than 30 other publications on topics relevant to general practice, more than 80 oral presentations, and more than 60 posters at scientific conferences. Søndergaard is a supervisor for 15 Ph.D. degree students. In addition, he is a Peer Reviewer for Ugeskrift for Læger, Rationel Farmakoterapi, Scandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care, Basic and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, BMC Health Service Research, Health Policy and Planning, Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management, BMC Family Practice, Drugs and Aging, European Journal of Neurology, European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and MTV reports from the Danish MTV-Institute and from Dansk Sundheds Institut (DSI). He is a Reviewer on applications to the Danish Medical Associations Scientific Funds, ZonMw, The Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development, and the Norwegian Research Council. He is a Member of the Professional Board of General Practice, the Chair of the Research Board of the Danish College of General Practitioners, and a member of several other national boards.
