Gang Qi received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Tex, in 1996, M.S. degree in mathematics from West Texas State University, Canyon, Tex, in 1993, M.S. degree in bioenvironmental engineering from China Agricultural University, in 1987, and B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Inner Mongolia University of Technology, in 1982. He has been an Associate Professor (since 2004) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Memphis, an Associate Professor (Joint appointment) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Memphis Joint Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering, The University of Memphis and University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, Tenn. (since 2004), and a Featured Engineer at the Memphis Area Joint Engineers Council for Excellence in Research and Service to the Engineering Community. Qi is the Founding Member of the Society of Design and Process Science, a Fellow at the Acoustic Emission Working Group, and a Member of ASME, ASEE, SEM, and ORS (Orthopaedic Research Society). He was also an Editorial Board Member of SAE Transaction Selection Committee and SAE Transactions (1997–2003), The Open Biomedical Engineering Journal (since 2007), MERLOT Engineering Editorial Board (since 2006). Qi is the Vice Chairman, Acoustic Emission Working Group (11 -) and a Board Member of Acoustic Emission Working Group (since 2003).
