Maire Vasar was born in 1956. She was graduated from Educational History University of Tartu, Medical Faculty, and got her M.D. degree in 1982. From 1992 to 1996, Vasar was a Postgraduate Student at Universities of Tartu and Linköping. She got her D. M. Sc. degree in 1998, “Allergic Diseases and Bronchial Hyperreactivity in Estonian Children in relation to Environmental Influences”. As for her employment and professional Experience, from 1983 to 1990, she was a Pulmonologist-Allergologist at Tartu Children´s Hospital. Vasar spent a residentship at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Tartu from 1990 to 1992 and was a Postgraduate Student at the Universities of Tartu and Linköping in the period 1992–1996. She occupied the position of a Pulmonologist-Allergologist at Children´s Hospital of Tartu University from 1994 to 2000. Vasar was a Senior Assistant at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Tartu from 1999 to 2002. She has been the Head of the Centre of Allergic Diseases, Children`s Clinic of Tartu University Hospital from 2000 and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Tartu from 2002. Concerning her administrative experience, she occupied the position of the Head of Allergy Centre, Children´s Clinic of Tartu University Hospital. Vasar has memberships in academic and scientific societies; she is a Member of the Estonian Society for Immunology and Allergology, Member of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, and Member of the Estonian Pediatric Society. Her current research is on epidemiology of asthma and allergic diseases, pulmonary function, and bronchial hyperreactivity in children.
