Markku Kauppi

Markku Kauppi was born in 1958 and received his M.D. degree in 1983 in Oulu University, Finland. He got his Ph.D. degree, when his thesis of the rheumatoid cervical spine was accepted at the Tampere University, Finland. Dr. Kauppi has been sa pecialist in internal medicine since 1990 and a specialist in rheumatology since 1992. He has also got special qualifications in pain treatment and rehabilitation. He was nominated to act as a Senior Lecturer in internal medicine at Oulu University in 1997 and as an Associate Professor in rheumatology at Tampere University in 2001. Kauppi has written more than 100 original scientific papers, mainly of several topics in the field of clinical rheumatology. He has been especially interested in the diagnostic and conservative treatment of the rheumatoid cervical spine. He has worked permanently at the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital, Heinola, Finland, since 1992 and has been the Head of the Rheumatology Department since 2001. Kauppi was the President of the Finnish Society for Rheumatology from 2007 to 2009. Dr. Kauppi has been the Finnish Delegate at the Rheumatology Section of the Union Européene des Médecins Specialist/European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) since 2003.
