Thierry Hoareau is an evolutionary biologist who obtained a Ph.D. degree in marine biology in 2005 at Université de La Réunion, Paris, France. Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pretoria, Pretoria, South Africa, where he worked on the evolution of several marine organisms. He is interested in questions related to the origin and evolution of widespread species using a phylogeographic framework based on the combination of population genetics and phylogenetics. These organisms are ideal to study colonization history, recent speciation events, natural selection, and the factors potentially influencing evolution. In addition to these evolutionary processes, he has an interest in the development of reliable genetic markers and the understanding of their evolution.
