Ben Herbst

Ben Herbst was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in 1952. He completed all his degrees at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, in 1982. He has held positions at the University of the Free State and University of Cape Town and is currently Professor in applied mathematics at the University of Stellenbosch. He has also held visiting positions at the University of Dundee (Scotland), Clarkson University, New York (NY, USA), and the University of Colorado, Boulder (CO, USA); the latter on several occasions. His former research interests include instabilities in discretizations of nonlinear wave equations. His current interests include structure from motion, applications of stereo vision, machine learning, and graphical models.
