Stefano Zurrida obtained his degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Cagliari, Sardinia, in 1986. He has academic specializations in general oncology, general surgery, and hygiene and preventive medicine. He is currently the Director of the Integrated Breast Diagnosis and Surgery Unit, University School of Medicine, at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, is the Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Mastology Association (EURAMA), and is on the Board of Directors of the Superior Institute of Health (Italian Ministry of Health, Rome). He was the General Manager of the National Cancer Institute, Milan. Professor Zurrida has authored over 260 scientific publications, most published in peer-reviewed journals. He is also a coauthor of the successful book Breast Cancer: A Guide for Fellows, now in its third edition. His interest in breast cancer extends far beyond his immediate patients, and he is active at the political and international levels to increase awareness of a disease whose incidence is increasing worldwide and to improve treatments in countries where its existence is still barely acknowledged.
