Paolo Bellavista, who received his Ph.D. degree, is an Associate Professor of distributed and mobile systems at the Computer Science and Engineering Department (DISI), the University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy. He was recently habilitated as Full Professor at the national examination Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale 2012. His research interests extend from middleware for mobile computing in general to adaptive multimedia, from context‐aware service composition to federated cloud computing resource management, and from opportunistic vehicular sensing to scalable online stream processing for smart cities. From the point of view of his publication record (Google Scholar data; March 2014: h‐index is 26; the number of citations is 2683), he has coauthored around 50 international journal/magazine articles (in publication venues that are considered the excellent ones in his research field, such as ACM Computing Surveys and IEEE Communication Surveys & Tutorials, IEEE TSE, IEEE JSAC, ACM TOIT, IEEE TVT, IEEE Computer, IEEE Internet Computing, IEEE Pervasive Computing, IEEE Communication Magazine, and IEEE Wireless Communications), guest‐edited more than 10 special issues in international journals/magazines, and coauthored around 15 chapters in international books and around 75 additional works published in other international venues (edited books, conferences, etc.). In addition, he is a Member of the editorial boards of several international magazines/journals, including IEEE Transactions on Computers, since 2011; IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, since 2011; IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, since 2008; Elsevier Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal, since 2010; Springer Journal of Network and Systems Management, since 2008; and IEEE Communications Magazine, from 2003 to 2011. Moreover, he is a Senior Member of IEEE and ACM and Member of the Steering Committee of the Networked European Software and Service Initiative (NESSI) European Technology Platform.
