Jan Peter Smedema

Jan Peter Smedema was born in the Netherlands (1964) and obtained his M.D. degree at the Free University of Amsterdam (1989). He was trained in internal medicine and obtained the fellowship of the College of Physicians of South Africa (1997) and the M.S. degree at the University of Stellenbosch (1998). He obtained level 2 certification in CMR at the Royal Brompton Hospital (2000) and was qualified as a Cardiologist at the Erasmus University Medical Centre (2002). In 2005, he obtained the F.E.S.C. and F.C.C.P. degrees. After being attached to the Maastricht University Medical Centre (2002-2005), he returned to South Africa and has been working in private practice with Netcare. He hopes to obtain his Ph.D. degree in 2011 (Maastricht University).
