Sunghak Lee has been a Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) since 1986. He received his degrees of B.S. (1978) and M.S. (1981) at the Department of Metallurgical Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea, and a Ph.D. degree (1985) at the Division of Engineering from Brown University, USA, for work on correlation of microstructure and fracture toughness in high-strength steels. From 1985 to 1986, he was a Research Associate at the Brown University. His main research fields are fracture mechanics of structural materials, dynamic deformation and fracture behavior, metal matrix composites, surface modification by high-energy electron beam irradiation, and thermal spray coating. He has published more than 230 papers in referred international journals, particularly more than 100 papers in Metallurgical and Materials Transactions. He has also solved many industrial trouble-shooting problems occurred in steel making or automotive companies such as POSCO and KIA. He is also working as an Editorial Board in Aluminum Transactions, Current Applied Physics, and Metals & Materials International.
