Krishnan Sumathy obtained her Ph.D. degree in engineering, from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1995. She completed M.E. degree in 1990, with specialization in Bioenergy and was awarded, with American Springs and Pressing Works Ltd., a fellowship. Dr. Sumathy obtained her B.S. degree in agricultural engineering, in 1988, from the Tamil Nadu University, India and was a Recipient of the National Merit Scholarship awarded by the Government of India. During the period, December 1995–July 1996, she was working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Korean Energy Research Institute, Taejon, Korea. In Fall 1996, she joined as a Faculty at the Energy Systems Division, Department of Mechanical Engineering, at University of Hong Kong (HKU). In 2006, she was awarded with the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship by the German Government for contributions made to solar energy applications. Presently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, at North Dakota State University (NDSU). She serves as a Member of the International Association for Solar Energy Education (IASEE), a Chartered Engineer as well as a Corporate Member of Institute of Energy, London (M.Inst.E), a member of American Solar Energy Society (ASES), a member of American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and a Life-Member of Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) and was a Member (2005-2006) of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). She has published more than 90 articles in international journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Recently, she received the recognition as the ““Advisor of the Year-2010” awarded by BISON Student Organization of NDSU, for the outstanding commitment made to university, community, and North Dakota State.
