Heather Milburn, M..B.B.S., M.S., M.D., F.R.C.P., serves as a Consultant in respiratory medicine at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London and as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. She is lead for clinical tuberculosis for South East London and in that capacity advises on national care plans and policies. She has written the National British Thoracic Society Guidelines for the management of TB, in particular for patients with chronic kidney disease and prior to anti-TNF therapy for chronic inflammatory disease. She is an Active Member of the European TB Research Network and its sister organization for research into nontuberculous mycobacterial disease and has contributed to several published European consensus statements. Her research is focused on susceptibility to TB, particularly looking at the effect of vitamin D deficiency. In addition to TB and NTM pulmonary disease, other areas of interest include sarcoidosis and lung disease following bone-marrow and stem-cell transplantation.
