Muschietti, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and researcher at the Instituto de la Química y Metabolismo del Fármaco (IQUIMEFA) (UBA-CONICET). Dr. Muschietti main research goal is the identification of natural lead molecules with antiprotozoal and antiviral activity from medicinal plants. Studies comprise phytochemical analysis, bioassay-guided approach and structure elucidation. Other interests are referred to mechanism of action, QSAR studies and development of semisynthetic analogs of natural products. She was awarded a Ph.D. scholarship (2000/University of Buenos Aires) and three prizes: 2011/Premio Felix de Azara; 2003/ Premio Anual en Farmacología y Estímulo "Bernardo A. Houssay"/ and 1994/ Premio “Académicos Ilustres” Prof. Dr. Alfredo Bandoni/) and has participated in more than 25 Research Projects. She has successfully communicated her research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences as oral and poster presentations. She has co-edited a book (2008/South American Medicinal Plants as a Potential Source of Bioactive Compounds) and is co-author of six book chapters and a textbook.
