Liliana V. Muschietti

Liliana V. Muschietti, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and researcher at the Instituto de la Química y Metabolismo del Fármaco (IQUIMEFA) (UBA-CONICET). Dr. Muschietti main research goal is the identification of natural lead molecules with antiprotozoal and antiviral activity from medicinal plants. Studies comprise phytochemical analysis, bioassay-guided approach and structure elucidation. Other interests are referred to mechanism of action, QSAR studies and development of semisynthetic analogs of natural products. She was awarded a Ph.D. scholarship (2000/University of Buenos Aires) and three prizes: 2011/Premio Felix de Azara; 2003/ Premio Anual en Farmacología y Estímulo "Bernardo A. Houssay"/ and 1994/ Premio “Académicos Ilustres” Prof. Dr. Alfredo Bandoni/) and has participated in more than 25 Research Projects. She has successfully communicated her research findings in peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences as oral and poster presentations. She has co-edited a book (2008/South American Medicinal Plants as a Potential Source of Bioactive Compounds) and is co-author of six book chapters and a textbook.
