Brendan Carvalho received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1994 and specialized in anesthesiology in the UK obtaining his F.R.C.A. degree from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London, UK, in 2000. After completing an obstetric anesthesia fellowship at Stanford University in 2002, Dr. Carvalho remained on staff at Stanford University Medical Center. His clinical, teaching, and scholarly activities focus on obstetrical and regional anesthesia. His research and area of expertise is primarily obstetrical anesthesia where he conducts clinical and translational research covering various aspects related to anesthesia for labor and cesarean section. He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Anesthesiology, Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, Calif, USA. Moreover, he is on the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia and ISRN Anesthesiology and a Guest Reviewer for Anesthesiology, Anesthesia and Analgesia, Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, Lancet, Journal of Research in Medical Sciences, Dove Medical Press, European Journal of Pain, and Acta Anaesthesiologica Belgica.
