Jacques C. Védrine
Jacques C. Vé drine was born in Lyon, France. He received a Chemical Engineering degree from ESCIL, and a Doctorat é s Sciences degree in 1968 from Lyon University. He spent two years in the USA (19691971) at Varian Associates and Princeton University. He returned to Lyon at IRC as a CNRS permanent scientist. In 1988, he became a Deputy Director of IRC. In 1998, he moved to the University of Liverpool in the UK as a Professor with chair at the Chemistry Department, and as a Director of European Associated Laboratory High Specificity Catalysis between CNRS and University of Liverpool. He moved back to France in 2003 and joined the Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie des Surfaces (ENSCP) and was a Part-Time “Chargé de Mission” at the Ministry of High Education and Research. He moved in 2006 to the Laboratoire de Réactivité de Surface, University Paris VI, where he is working currently. He was awarded the Grand prix (Pierre SUE) SFC in 2001, and he was elected the President of Catalysis Division of SFC 1994—1997. He was an Elected Member of the French National Committee of Scientific Research (1996—2001), and he was elected as the President of the European Federation of Catalysis Society (EFCATS), 1997—1999. He authored more than 350 publications in international journals and 7 books, and shared in 250 conferences or communications, including 30 plenary lectures and 50 invited lectures. His scientific interests cover heterogeneous catalysis (selective oxidation on mixed oxides and polyoxometalates, and acid-base catalysis on zeolites, polyoxometalates, sulfated oxides), combinatorial catalysis, and physical techniques of catalyst characterisation. He is currently working on a Michel Che, two-volume book Characterisation of Solid Materials: From Structure to Surface Reactivity to appear at the end of 2011 by Wiley-VCH. He has been a Consultant for many national and international industrial companies, a member of editorial boards of several international scientific journals, and a Co-organizer of many national and international congresses.
