M. Welzl

Michael Welzl received his M.S. degree from the University of Linz, Austria, and passed his Ph.D. defense at the University of Darmstadt, Germany, with distinction, in November 2002. His thesis “Scalable performance signalling and congestion avoidance,” which was written under the supervision of Professor Max Muehlhaeuser (University of Darmstadt, Germany) and Professor Jon Crowcroft (University of Cambridge, United Kingdom), introduced the PTP protocol and showed its benefits in isolation; a revised version of this work is available at Kluwer Academic Publishers. Dr. Welzl spent two years as a Research Assistant at the Telecooperation Department, University of Linz, Austria, before joining the faculty of the newly founded Institute of Computer Science, the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in November 2001, where he is doing research on computer networks with a focus on grid computing.
