Giovanni Maina was born in Turin, Italy, in 1952. He received the M.D. degree from the University of Turin, Italy, in 1978. Since 1978, Maina is with the Industrial Hygiene Laboratory of the Occupational Medicine Institute (OMI). From 1986 to 2006, he served as a Senior Researcher at OMI. Presently, he serves as a Professor. He is mainly interested in occupational hygiene: biological monitoring, risk assessment, percutaneous absorption of chemicals, and nanoparticles toxicology. From 1999 to 2003, Maina was the Team Leader of the Italian group involved in the European project of International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, Psychoneuroendocrinology (USA), Industrial Health, Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, and BMJ Public Health (UK).
