Sofia Casares achieved the Ph.D. degree in 1991 from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain. Since 2007, she has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, MD, USA, and as a Senior Immunologist in the US Military Malaria Vaccine Program, Infectious Disease Directorate, Naval Medical Research Center/Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Silver Spring, MD, USA, respectively. Since 2011, Casares has been working as an Assistant Professor in Molecular and Cellular Biology Program, USUHS, Bethesda, MD, USA. Her areas of expertise include T-cell immunology, vaccine development, immunotherapy, malaria, disease biomarkers, type 1 (autoimmune) diabetes, and humanized mice.
