David R Thompson
David Thompson is Professor of Nursing in the Cardiovascular Research Centre at the Australian Catholic University. He was Professor of Cardiovascular Nursing in the School of Medicine at the University of Leicester (2007-2010); Professor of Nursing at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2002-2007); Professor of Nursing at the University of York (1998-2002); Professor of Nursing at the University of Hull (1994-1998); and Professor of Nursing Research (part-time) at the UK Department of Health (1998-2001). He is Visiting Professor at King’s College London, University of Queensland, University of Stirling, University of Technology, Sydney and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Thompson has extensive clinical and research experience in cardiac care and rehabilitation and has published around 500 papers in nursing, medical and psychological journals as well as 40 book chapters and 15 books. He has secured significant research grants from the British Heart Foundation, Department of Health, Medical Research Council, Hong Kong Jockey Club and industry. He has received numerous honours, including being elected a Fellow of Royal College of Nursing (1992), a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (1998) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (2008).
