Piergiuseppe Colombo received his M.D. degree "summa cum laude", at the University of Milan School of Medicine, Milan, Italy in 1995 and the Habilitation degree in pathological anatomy and histology, at the Postgraduate Medical School in Pathology, University of Milan, Milan, Italy in 1999. During 1999 –2005, Colombo was Staff Pathologist at the Department of Pathology, University of Milan School of Medicine, Humanitas Clinical Institute, IRCCS, Rozzano, Milan, and from 2005 to 2009, he was Deputy Director of Pathology, University of Milan School of Medicine, Humanitas Clinical Institute, IRCCS, Rozzano, Milan. Since 2009, he serves as Deputy Director, Chief of Section of Surgical Pathology, at the Department of Pathology, University of Milan School of Medicine, Humanitas Clinical Institute, IRCCS, Rozzano, Milan. Colombo is a Referee for quality control in Anatomic Pathology. Since 2005, Colombo is teaching at the School of Medicine, University of Milan. He has great experience in gross pathology and morbid anatomy, histopathology (subspeciality in oncologic pathology of the genitourinary tract and soft tissue pathology), and cytopathology. His main fields of research include phenotypic and molecular characterization of preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions of the human prostate, bladder cancer and neoplastic lesions of soft tissue, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology techniques to anatomic pathology in diagnosis and research, and quantitative methods as prognostic factors in neoplastic disease of urological tract. Colombo is a Member in the Società Italiana di Anatomia Patologica e Citopatologia (SIAPEC), Gruppo Italiano di Uropatologia, and the Italian Sarcoma Group. He is also a Referee for the World Journal of Surgical Oncology, Case Journal, Gastroenterology Research and Practice, Pathology, Rare Tumors, Open Journal of Urology, SRP Journal Urology, and ISRN Pathology.
