Kaitian Xu obtained his Ph.D. degree in polymer from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2000. After a NASA postdoctoral research in the College of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Akron, Dr. Xu worked as a Scientist at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he developed novel biodegradable polyesters and nylons for Cargill, Cognis, and Dupont. He moved back to China in 2005 as a Professor in polymer at the Multidisciplinay Research Center of Shantou University, where he set up the State-of-the-Art Polymer Laboratory and the team under the support of Li Ka Shing Foundation. His work was focused on the applications of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Investigation on nonfossil commodity polymers, the polymer-related products, biomedical materials, and the medical devices based on PHA are actively conducted.
