Philippe Giegé was born in Strasbourg, France in 1972. He received a joint European Ph.D. degree from the University of Strasbourg and the University of Ulm, Ulm, Germany in 1999. His Ph.D. degree research was performed in the laboratories of J.M. Grieneberger and A. Brennicke. Between 2000 and 2003, Giegé was a Research Fellow in the laboratory of C. J. Leaver of the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford, UK. In 2003, Giegé was recruited at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as a “Chargé de Recherche.” He now has the rank of “Directeur de Recherche” and leads a research group investigating the function of pentatricopeptide repeat proteins in plants at the Institute for Plant Molecular Biology of the CNRS in Strasbourg. During his career, Giegé has mostly been interested in molecular mechanisms responsible for gene expression processes in plant organelles.
