Naohiro Fujimoto graduated from Shimane Medical School, Shimane, Japan, where he obtained his M.D. degree in 1984. Dr Fujimoto joined the Department of Urology, University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Kitakyushu, Japan, and started his career as an urologist. He joined Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis, USA, (1996–1997) and George Whipple Lab in Cancer Research, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, USA, (1997–1998). He studied mechanisms of hormone-resistance of prostate cancer and investigated a role of androgen receptor action in the progression of prostate cancer, then obtained his Ph.D. degree. He was promoted to Associate Professor in Department of Urology at University of Occupational and Environmental Health in 2003. He has been accumulating experiences in both clinical and basic research not only on prostate cancer, but also other urological malignant and nonmalignant diseases.
