Joan Clària was born in Bellprat (Barcelona, Spain), in 1963. He received his B.S. degree in biological sciences and his Ph.D. degree from the Universitat de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain) in 1987 and 1992, respectively. From 1987 to 1992, he was a Research Fellow at the Liver Unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. From 1993 to 1995, Dr. Clària was a Fulbright Scholar at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School (Boston, Ma, USA). In 1996, he was the recipient of the Bayer International Award. In 2001, Dr. Clària was a Visiting Professor at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC, USA). In 2007, he was a Visiting Scientist at The Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, Me, USA). Presently, Dr. Clària is a Faculty Member at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the Hospital Cíinic of Barcelona and an Associate Professor at the Barcelona University School of Medicine. He is mainly interested in the study of inflammatory lipid mediators participating in the development of adipose tissue inflammation and steatohepatitis in metabolic liver disease. He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of Gut, World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology, and World Journal of Hepatology and Lipids Insight. He is currently at the Harvard Institutes of Medicine (Boston, Ma, USA).
