Mitchell Palmer is currently a Veterinary Medical Officer, Bacterial Diseases of Livestock Research, National Animal Disease Center, USDA, Ames, Iowa, USA. Palmer obtained an AA degree in animal science from the Snow College, Ephraim, Utah, USA, 1983, a B.S. degree in bioveterinary science from the Utah State University, 1985, a DVM degree in veterinary medicine, from the Purdue University, 1989, and a Ph.D. degree in veterinary pathology, from the Iowa State University, 1996. Palmer's research interests include investigation of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, transmission, and epidemiology of tuberculosis in cattle and wildlife. Palmer has general interest in all diseases transmitted between wildlife and domestic livestock, especially zoonotic diseases. Palmer's investigations involve techniques such as histopathology, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, flow cytometry, and electron microscopy.
