Didier Chicot was born in La Châtre, France, in 1961. After attending the Engineering School in Materials Science at Lille (Polytech-Lille) in 1986, he obtained a first Ph.D. degree in 1991 and the second one (H.D.R. degree) in 1996, both in mechanical engineering. Presently, he serves as a Professor at the University of Science and Technology of Lille North of France and is a Member of the Laboratory of Mechanics of Lille which is associated to the CNRS institute (LML UMR 8107). His research activities are mainly devoted to the mechanical characterization of bulk materials and thin or thick coated systems by means of classical and instrumented indentation tests, one of the major objectives being to introduce a multiscale approach for determining the mechanical properties (hardness, elastic modulus, toughness, adhesion, indentation work, creep by indentation, behaviour law, etc.). In addition, he serves as a Coordinator of the International Meeting on Thermal Spraying at Lille and as a Coordinator of some international programs such as PHC and CNRS-FONACIT.
