Miguel Ayala Botto
Miguel Ayala Botto was born in Lisbon in 1965. He graduated from Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, in 1989, and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the same university in 1992 and 1996, respectively. He has held two visiting research positions at the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of IST and a Senior Researcher at IDMEC. He is a Member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Discrete Events and Hybrid Systems, Head of the Portuguese Association on Automatic Control (the Portuguese IFAC NMO), and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Systems Science. In 1999, he received the Heavise Premium from the Council of the IEE (The Institution of Electrical Engineers), UK. His research interests include identification, estimation, and control of hybrid systems.
