Pierluigi Porcu

Pierluigi Porcu works as an Associate Professor of medicine at the Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, Ohio, USA, and a Member of the Viral Oncology Group of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC), with a research focus on T/NK-cell, cutaneous lymphoma, and EBV. His research has been supported by an NIH/NCI K23 (2003–2008) and is now funded by the NCI (R21 CA164911) and an Intramural OSUCCC Pelotonia Idea Grant. He obtained his M.D. degree in 1987 from the University of Turin, Turin, Italy. He serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Temple University (1990-1992), Philadelphia, Pa, USA, and Thomas Jefferson University (1992-1993), Philadelphia, Pa, USA. He completed a Residency in internal medicine in 1996 and a Fellowship in hematology/oncology in 1999 at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind, USA. Dr. Porcu was a recipient of a SmithKline Beecham Research Fellowship award and was selected to be Chief Fellow. He has been an invited Grant Reviewer for the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and the National Medical Research Council, Singapore. Dr. Porcu has been Secretary-Treasurer of the United States Cutaneous Lymphoma Consortium (USCLC) since 2009. Dr. Porcu was the Cochair of the Cutaneous Lymphoma Summit in New York (2009) and he was on the International Program Committee of the 2nd World Congress of Cutaneous Lymphoma (Berlin, Germany, 2013). He has an extensive record of fundraising for the OSUCCC. In 2009 he created Team CTCL, a cycling group that rides annually in Pelotonia. In 2012 Dr. Porcu joined the ASH Fundraising Committee. Dr. Porcu works extensively in lymphoma education and mentoring, both at the academic level and in the community. He has taught undergraduate and graduate classes at OSU, was selected as the Cancer Signature Program liaison of the OSUCCC, and coordinates a postgraduate course on translational cancer research. He is very active in patient education forums, on behalf of patient advocacy organizations.
