Takato Koba was born in Omuta, Japan, in 1952. He graduated from Kyoto University in 1976 and received Doctor’s degree from the same institution in 1985. From 1984 to 1992, he worked at the Research Institute of Agricultural Resources, Ishikawa Agricultural College on the subjects of anther culture of rice, production of wheat-barley hybrids and barley chromosome addition lines of common wheat. Since transferring to Faculty of Horticulture, Chiba University, in 1992, he has been teaching genetics and breeding. He is now a Professor. He is interested in molecular cytogenetics and genome sciences of plants. He is working on molecular analysis of crossability of common wheat with alien species, karyotype analyses of horticultural plants using condensation patterns of chromosomes, and FISH (fluorescent in situ hybiridization) method, phylogeny of horticultural plants using DNA sequences, and utilization of molecular markers in plant breeding. He worked as a treasurer from 2000 to 2003, and as a member of the organizing committee from 2002 to 2005, in Japanese Society of Breeding. Since 2005, he is a Member of the committee of the Society of Chromosome Research, Japan, and Editorial Board Member of the journal, Chromosome Science. He is also a Member of the Genetics Society, Japan, and Japanese and International Society for Horticultural Science.
