Robin G. Cox
Dr. Cox obtained his medical degree from the University of London (UK) in 1976, and his MRCP(UK) in Internal Medicine in 1979. He undertook residency training in Anesthesiology at the Westminster and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London. After obtaining his FRCA in 1981, he underwent subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. In 1985, Dr. Cox completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, and was appointed to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Calgary, as a pediatric anesthesiologist and intensivist in 1987. He obtained his FRCPC in Anesthesia in 1989. At the Alberta Children’s Hospital, he was Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (1991 – 1996), and Division Head, Pediatric Anesthesia (1995 – 2001); he remains in active practice as a pediatric anesthesiologist. He is a Professor of Anesthesia at the University of Calgary. His involvement in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) includes membership of the Professional Development Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), and the CPD Committee of the Association of Canadian University Departments of Anesthesia. He sat on the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia for nine years, and guest reviews for three other anesthesia journals. Dr. Cox regularly publishes educational and research articles pertaining to pediatric anesthesia, and is a frequently invited guest speaker. He sits on several national committees, and is currently a member of council of the RCPSC, and the Ethics Committee of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society.
