Yoshihide Sunada was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1957. He received the M.D. degree from Okayama University and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, in 1983 and 1991, respectively. From 1993 to 1995, Y. Sunada was a postdoctoral fellow of Prof. Kevin Campbell's laboratory at University of Iowa. In 1996 he was an assistant professor of the Department of Neurology and Neuroscience in Teikyo University in Tokyo. Presently, he is a Professor of Neurology, Kawasaki Medical School, Kurashiki, Japan. He is mainly interested in muscular dystrophy and related muscle disorders to study the molecular pathogenesis and to develop novel therapeutics. In 1995, he was a corecipient of the Prix INSERM-Academie des Sciences, France. At present he is a principal investigator of Japanese Muscular Dystrophy Research Council.
