Ramana M. Pidaparti his Ph.D. degree in aeronautics and Astronautics from Purdue University, West Lafayette, in 1989. Currently, he is a Professor of mechanical engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University Campus in Indianapolis (IUPUI) for 15 years. His research interests are in the broad areas of multidisciplinary design, computational mechanics, micro-/nanotechnology, biomechanics and related topics. He has published over 200 technical papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings in the areas of computational mechanics related to composites, fracture mechanics, and biomechanics. His current research interests are in MEMS, biological composites, multiscale modeling methods, computational intelligence methods, corrosion, and smart materials and structures. He teaches CAE design and analysis, design optimization, rapid prototyping, and design courses. He recently published a book titled Design Engineering and Mechanisms by Pearson Publishing company. He received a Research Initiation Award from the National Science Foundation and the Young Investigator Award from the Whitaker Foundation. He is a Member of Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Tau, and Who's Who societies. He has won awards for his research and teaching. He is a member of professional societies including American Society of Mechanical Engineers (Fellow), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (Associate Fellow), American Society of Engineering Education, and Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
