David Packham is a holder of M.B.B.S. (honors), F.R.C.P., F.R.A.C.P., and M.D. (Melbourne) degrees. A/Prof Packham holds Consultant Nephrologist positions at the Austin Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospitals. He is a Member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology, International Society of Nephrology, American Society of Nephrology, and European Dialysis and Transplantation Association. He is a Reviewer for several international journals, including Kidney International, American Journal of Kidney Disease, Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Nephrology, Dialysis & Transplantation, and Nephrology. In addition, he is an Associate Director of the Pacific Coordinating Centre, International Collaborative Study Group, Chicago, Ill, USA; Steering Committee Member, Paricalcitol Capsules Benefits in Renal Failure Induced Cardiac Morbidity PRIMO trial; Member of the Executive, International Collaborative Study Group, Chicago (and Member of Recruitment and Retention and Drug Safety Committees); Member of the Executive, Committee of the Australian Kidney Exchange Program. A/Professor Packham is actively involved in clinical research having published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers. He is Director of the Melbourne Renal Research Group which has conducted clinical trials in a variety of chronic kidney conditions. A/Professor Packham and the Melbourne Renal Research Group have established an international reputation for excellence. His areas of interest are diabetic nephropathy, chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypertension, and microhematuria. He has a large private practice with particular interest in preemptive renal transplant and paired kidney exchange programs. Access to participation in Stage 3 clinical trials designed to improve clinical outcomes in CKD is a priority.
