Takayuki Ebata received his Ph.D. degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama, Japan, in 1981, under the direction of Professor Ikuzo Tanaka. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Tohoku University, Japan, in 1981, and was promoted as an Associated Professor in 1993. From 1984 to 1986, he did a postdoctoral research at the Stanford University, under the direction of Professor Richard Zare. His awards include the Subsidy from Morino Foundation (1990), Takaoka Citizen’s Award (1997), Award for Scientific Measurements (1998), Hiroshima University President Award (2007), and the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work (2008). Ebata has devoted himself to the development of nonlinear laser spectroscopy of clusters and supramolecules under the jet-cooled condition.
