Akifumi Suzuki

Akifumi Suzuki is, currently, the President of the Research Institute for Brain and Blood Vessels, Akita, Japan and Visiting Professor of Akita University, Akita, Japan. His specialty is neurosurgery, stroke science, cerebral blood flow and metabolism, and electroneurophysiology. Suzuki was born in 1949 in Japan. He graduated from the School of Medicine, Mie University, and acquired his Ph.D. degree at Tohoku University. He began the Residency of neurosurgery at Research Institute for Brain and Blood Vessels in 1950. After that, he has occupied the following positions in the Research Institute for Brain and Blood Vessels: Chief of neurosurgery in 1985, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery in 2000, Vice President in 2009, and President since 2010.
