Achla Marathe received her B.A. degree (honors) in economics from Delhi University, India, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from the University at Albany, NY. She joined the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech as an Associate Professor in January 2005. Before joining Virginia Tech, she worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for ten years, initially as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a technical staff member. Prior to joining Los Alamos National Laboratory, she consulted for International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group, where her work focused on emerging equity markets. She serves currently as the Lead Economist and Social Scientist at the “Network Dynamics and Simulation Science Laboratory (NDSSL)” at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech. At NDSSL, she has been working with a transdisciplinary group of researchers who specialized in building individual-based models and using advanced simulation methods, to study large social networks, infrastructures, and contagion of behavior and diseases.
