William Haynes, who holds an M.D. degree, serves as a Professor of medicine and Director of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Haynes has expertise in cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, and atherosclerosis. He has been an Investigator in multiple clinical trials of novel therapies for these conditions, including drugs targeting the renin-angiotensin system, endothelin, oxidant stress, and obesity/metabolic syndrome. Dr. Haynes' mechanistic research is funded by the NIH and focuses on the roles of insulin, incretin hormones (including GLP-1), leptin, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, and oxidant stress. He has published over 150 papers and has been recognized by multiple international awards.
