Luca Miele was born in Naples, Italy, on July 17, 1974. He received an M.D. degree cum laude in 2000 and completed the Specialist Residency in internal medicine in 2005 at the Catholic University, Rome, Italy. Since his residency, he joined the liver group and served as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Internal Medicine Ward and Outpatient Liver Unit of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. In 2005, he received the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Sheila Sherlock Fellowship and moved to the University of Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, UK, working as a Clinical Research Associate at the Northern Institute for Cancer Research from 2005 to 2007. Miele was granted a Ph.D. degree in pathophysiology of metabolism by the Italian Ministry for University and Research Studentship from the Catholic University in 2009. He also received 10 travel grants as Best Abstract Award or Young Investigator from several scientific societies (SIMI, AISF, EASL, EAGE, EFIM, and UEGF). Since 2008, he has been a Consultant Internist and Hepatologist at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome and Contract Professor of gastroenterology at the Postgraduate School of Gastroenterology of the Catholic University of Rome, Italy. His clinical activity is mainly based in the Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Ward and in the Outpatient Liver Unit at the Complesso Integrato Columbus of Catholic University. Miele has collaborations in scientific research with several Italian, European, and American Institutions in the field of internal and liver medicine. He serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and has been invited for scientific lectures in several international conferences.
