Johannes Kuchta received the M.D. degree with the thesis title “Transcranial magnetoelectric stimulation: the influence of magnetic stimuli on the speech-associated areas of the human brain” from the Department of Neurosurgery, Bonn University Hospital, Germany. In 2008, Kuchta obtained the Ph. D. degree with the thesis title “Central auditory implants” from Cologne University, Cologne, Germany. Kuchta held a Fellowship at the Department of Stereotaxy and Functional Neurosurgery, University of Cologne. In addition, Kuchta held a postdoc research fellowship at the Department of Auditory Implants and Perception, House Ear Institute, Los Angeles, CA, USA. Kuchta was a certified Specialist for General Neurosurgery and a Consultant Spine Surgeon, Department of Neurosurgery, MediaPark Clinic Cologne, as well as the Director of the cervical spine surgery unit. Also, Kuchta has been serving as the Director of the Laboratory for Clinical Neurophysiology (EEG, EMG, EP) at the Department of Neurosurgery, Cologne University. Kuchta occupied the post of Supervisor and Consultant for interspinous implant surgery and cervical disc prosthesis implantation, as well as an Assistant Professor. Kuchta is a Member in several societies such as German Society of Neurosurgeons, European Brain and Behavior Society (EBBS), German Spine Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, International Neuromodulation Society (INS), German Society for Neuromodulation (DGNM), and Musculoskeletal Pain Society. In addition, Kuchta is a Member of the Editorial Board of the Annals of Neurosurgery, an internet-based peer-reviewed neurosurgical journal. Kuchta is also a Guest Editor for the Ear and Hearing, the official journal of the American Auditory Society (AAS). Kuchta’s research interests include spine surgery, interspinous implants, cervical disc prosthesis, minimally invasive and functional neurosurgery, neural prostheses, electrophysiology, stereotaxy, and audiology.
