Elena Maria Faioni

Elena Maria Faioni obtained her Medical degree and the specialization in haematology at the University of Milano in Milan, Italy. She served as a Senior Researcher at the Cardiovascular Research Program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation from 1986 to 1988. Faioni also visited the McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, Canada, to work on leukocytes in 1993. Since 1988, she served first for the Maggiore Policlinico Hospital in Milano, Italy and then in 1991 at the University of Milano in Milan, Italy and Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at the University of Colorado Denver, Colo, USA. Since 2001, Faioni is serving at the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry at the University of Milano, Milan, Italy with Professor Marco Cattaneo. Her main research interests are in the field of hemostasis and particularly in that of thrombosis, and regulation of clot formation. Recent interests include the relationship between the protein C pathway and inflammation and the extravascular role of the protein C pathway. Her clinical activities are focused on hematology services, including surveillance of thrombosis within the hospital, and consultation for clotting diseases.
