John R. Grider

John R. Grider was born in Chester, Pa., USA, in 1952. He received the B.S. degree in biology (cum laude) from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 and the Ph.D. degree in physiology and biophysics from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University) in 1981. He did postdoctoral training with Dr. Gabriel Makhlouf at the Medical College of Virginia and works currently as a Professor of physiology, biophysics, and medicine (gastroenterology) at the Virginia Commonwealth University. His research focuses on neuromuscular regulation of gut smooth muscle with special interest in the enteric nervous system and the peristaltic reflex. He has published over 100 articles in this field. He serves currently in the editorial boards of numerous journals in the field of gastrointestinal research.
