Zhang-Jin Zhang serves currently as an Associate Professor and as the Assistant Director at the School of Chinese Medicine, University of Hong Kong. He received his Chinese and Western medical training and obtained his Ph.D. degree in neuroscience in China. During 1995-2006, he moved to USA and continued his research work in psychopharmacology and clinical psychiatry at Vanderbilt University and then Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS). He assumed his current position at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2006. He actively practices acupuncture and herbal medicine for major neurological and psychiatric diseases. His research interest focuses on developing effective treatment strategies mainly from traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture against major neuropsychiatric disorders, including pain, sleep, depression, anxiety, cognitive disorders, drug addiction, and schizophrenia. He has directed a series of clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of new interventions. He is also interested in herb-drug interactions and neural basis of acupuncture. He serves as a Guest Editor and a Member of editorial boards of several journals.
