Sedat Boyacioglu received a D.M. degree from Istanbul University Medical School, Istanbul, Turkey, in 1980. He did a training in internal medicine at clinical fellowship (Hacettepe University-Karadeniz University,1980–1984). From 1984 to 1986, he joined the Department of Gastroenterology, Gulhane Military Academy. Moreover, he was the Chief Resident at Gastroenterology Department, Turkish Advanced Specialized Hospital, Ankara (1989–1994), a faculty member of the Department of Gastroenterology, Baskent University in 1994 where he chaired the department until 2004, an Associate Professor of gastroenterology (1992–1998), a Professor of gastroenterology since 1998, and the Director of the Department of Gastroenterology at MESA Hospital, Ankara. He has over 100 international and 180 national publications and 48 oral national and international presentations. In addition, he is on the Editorial Boards of Endoscopy (Journal of European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) and the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology. Boyacioglu has memberships both nationally and internationally. Nationally, he is a the Past President (2003–2007) and the current Secretary of the Turkish Society of Gastroenterology (TGD), and he is a Member of the Turkish Clinical Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Society (KEPAN), Turkish Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Turkish Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Turkish Society of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Internationally, he is a Member of the European Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN), European Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (EASL), European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), Association of National European and Mediterranean Society of Gastroenterology (ASNEMGE), World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) (Member of the Education and Training Committee), and International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologist and Oncologist (IASGO).
